This map brings to light not only countries that have the highest volumes of
internal freight volumes, but as well their share of internal road transport.
The proportion of freight transported by road is increasing steadily.
In Switzerland, freight share by rail and by road in 1970 were respectively
of 60 and 40%. In 2003, these numbers were in reverse order
with 60% of freight transported by road!
