Which Sectors Emit the Most Greenhouse Gases (Keeping Track)

TypeMaps and Graphics

Duration: January 2007 - December 2007

Over 60% of Greenhouse Gases are emitted by three economic sectors

The energy supply sector, industry/manufacturing and forestry sectors together account for over 60% of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The forestry sector’s contribution is mainly through worldwide deforestation, as trees cut down to clear space for agriculture and other land uses can no longer absorb carbon dioxide, and if left to rot or burned, emit CO2 stored in trunks and leaves.
