Réagir: deforestation - OUDOMXAY

TypePoster

Duration: May 1975 - December 2000

Laos has one of the most intact primary tropical rainforest in the
region. However, agricultural practices such as uncontrolled burning
and shifting cultivation are the primary causes of deforestation.
This comparison of satellite images shows how the intensity of
shifting cultivation activities has increased over time.
In 1975 there were only scattered areas under cultivation in the
forest. By 2000, the number and size of cultivated areas and
disturbed forest cover has increased substantially.
