Réagir: desertification - LAGON SONGOR
|
Type: Poster
Duration: May 1990 - May 2000
With 115 km2 (44 square miles), Songor is one of the major
lagoon associated with the Volta River. These two images
show a conspicuous reduction in the surface area giving
place to exposed bare ground. Seasonal or annual rainfall
variability does not explain all such decline, the two main
reasons appear to be salt extraction at the western end of the
lagoon and diversion of feeder streams for irrigation.
