Marshlands of Mesopotamia (Iraq)

Type: Poster
Duration: March 2000 - March 2004
At the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates, the Mesopotamian marshes are one
of the largest wetlands in the world, stretching over 17,000 km 2. They almost disappeared
as a result of drainage and the construction of several dams upstream, and along
with them a natural jewel where vast numbers of migratory birds nested. Restoration
measures have been taken in recent years and the marshes are regaining some
of their former riches.
