Desert of Al’Isawiyah (Saudi Arabia)

TypePoster

Duration: February 1986 - February 2004

Rich in oil but poor in water, Saudi Arabia has an exceptionally dry climate. However, petro-dollars can accomplish many things especially when they are allied with technology. The Kingdom has financed a vast irrigation programme in certain arid regions. Mechanised sprinklers on a centre-pivot, supplied by water from an ancient aquifer (non-renewable), produce perfectly circular fields.
